Getting to the Guatemalan Consulate in Miami
The consulate is at 1000 Brickell Ave, Suite 1000, in the Brickell district. By Metrorail, take the green line to Brickell station (Brickell Ave exit) and walk about 5 minutes south along Brickell Ave; the building is clearly signposted from the street. Several Metrobus routes also stop on Brickell Ave. If you drive from the north (Hialeah, Miami Lakes), take I-95 South to the Brickell Ave exit and continue about a quarter of a mile. From the south (Homestead, Kendall), come up US-1 North to Brickell. Paid parking is available in the building itself and in nearby garages.
How to book an appointment at the Guatemalan Consulate in Miami
Every procedure requires an appointment. Book it on the official MINEX portal or by calling the consulate directly. In the booking system, select "EE.UU. – Miami" and the type of service you need. Book at least three to four weeks ahead, especially in peak season (summer, Easter week and December).

Yes. The Miami consulate has jurisdiction over Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties, so Guatemalans in Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Hollywood and Deerfield Beach can use this office. For Palm Beach and north-central Florida, the consulate in charge is Lake Worth, about 80 miles north of Miami.
Can I renew my Guatemalan passport in Miami if I was not born in Guatemala?
If you are Guatemalan by birth or by naturalisation, you can renew your passport at any Guatemalan consulate, whatever your department of origin. Bring your previous passport, a valid cédula or DPI, proof of address in Florida and the current consular fee. Check the up-to-date requirements at portal.minex.gob.gt before your appointment.
How long does a Guatemalan passport applied for in Miami take?
In normal conditions the passport takes four to eight weeks from the date of your appointment. In peak season —summer, Easter week and December— it can stretch to ten or twelve weeks. Apply at least three months ahead if you have a trip planned. The consulate will let you know when it is ready to collect.
Does the Miami consulate help if ICE detains me?
Yes. The consulate has a consular protection service that can step in when ICE or other authorities detain someone. Its duty number is staffed 24 hours a day: (305) 346-5888. Which documents do I need to register the birth of my child born in Miami?
To register a birth at the consulate you need: the hospital certificate of live birth (original and certified copy), a valid DPI or Guatemalan passport for both parents, and the marriage certificate if the parents are married.
