How do I know which Guatemalan consulate covers my state?
Each consulate covers a set consular district. The Omaha consulate, for example, serves Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. Can you renew a Guatemalan passport in the US without travelling to Guatemala?
Yes. Every Guatemalan consulate in the United States issues and renews passports. An appointment is required and free of charge. You will usually need your previous passport or a valid DPI, your birth certificate and a photograph. The consulate will tell you the exact fee and how long delivery takes.
What is the DPI, and can I apply for it at the consulate?
The Documento Personal de Identificación (DPI) is Guatemala’s national identity document, the equivalent of the cédula in other Latin American countries. Yes, you can apply for it or renew it at the Guatemalan consulate that covers you in the US. It requires an appointment and specific paperwork that the consulate will list for you.
Which procedures can I complete at the Guatemalan consulate near me?
