Who we are
consulado-guatemalteco.com is an independent information site about the consulates of Guatemala in the United States. It is run by a small team with one job: to gather in one place, in plain language, what you need to know to get a consular procedure done without losing a day's work.
It began with a simple observation: the information exists, but it is scattered across the MINEX portal, the Embassy site and the pages of twenty-five consulates, each in its own format. Here it is together, city by city, and written for someone who does not work in government.
Who this site is for
For the more than one and a half million Guatemalans living in the United States who need to renew a passport, get the DPI, register a child's birth, sign a power of attorney to sell a house back home, or find out which number to call if a relative has been detained.
And for anyone who simply wants to check a detail before driving two hours: the exact address, today's opening hours, whether an appointment is needed and which documents they will be asked for.
How we verify the information
- Official Guatemalan sources only. The data comes from MINEX, the Embassy in the United States and each consulate's official pages and channels.
- Nothing is invented. If a consulate does not publish its email address or its summer hours, this site does not make them up: it leaves them out and tells you who to ask.
- Regular review. Addresses, phone numbers, opening hours and districts are checked against the original source, because they change without notice.
- Fees are always indicative. Amounts published by the sources are marked as approximate, with advice to confirm them before paying.
How the assistant works
The site's assistant does not answer from memory. Before writing anything it queries a knowledge graph built only from what the Guatemalan institutions publish: every consulate, procedure and requirement is a node that records where the fact came from and when it was checked. The language model understands your question and phrases the answer; the facts come from the graph. If the fact is not there, it says so rather than inventing it.
It is being rolled out for Guatemala: the ask box is already on the site and, until we finish connecting it, it warns that it cannot answer and points you to our guides.
What we are NOT
- We are not the Government of Guatemala, nor MINEX, nor the Embassy, nor any consulate. We have no institutional relationship with them.
- We do not process documents. No passport, DPI, certificate or power of attorney is issued on this site.
- We do not book or speed up appointments. Appointments are requested on the official portal and are free; nobody can bring one forward for a fee.
- We do not give legal or immigration advice. For that you need a lawyer.
- We charge users nothing for the information.
How the site is funded
Through third-party advertising, mainly Google AdSense. Ads are marked as such and do not influence what we write: no advertiser decides which consulate appears or how a procedure is explained. You can manage your preferences in the Cookie Policy.
